Berlin is the city I spend most my life in. I was born and raised in one of the greatest cities in the world.
Ok, ok,... for me one of the greatest cities in the world :-)
German cuisine is so much more than people think. No, we don't just eat sausages, Sauerkraut and bread.
Ok, the bread yes,... we eat it all the time, haha. But not Sauerkraut.
When my partner and I came to Australia, it was stunning for us to see,
how many people actually think we are based on sausages and sauerkraut.
When we spend more and more time here, we figured out why.
A lot of Bavarian people life here. And the Bavarian kitchen is different to the rest of Germany.
All German cities for sure have the traditional dishes on the menu, but there is so much more.
When I have to name a type of dish, what is typical German, I go with stews!
Specially Berlin. Berlin created out of almost every veggie, legume and meat, a stew!
I am sure that is war related. My granny told me about the war and how they managed to bring food on the table.
They even cooked potato soup out of potato skin when they had nothing else left.
And most of the time there was not much available. Veggies and water. Sometimes meat.
So in this section, you will find delicious stews for sure.
All the stews I grew up with and still love to eat and cook.
Berlin is also famous for Currywurst. The most eaten fast-food in Berlin. Next to the Doener Kebap.
Berlin has a very large Turkish community. So you find Turkish restaurants on every corner, like here in Australia, Sushi stores.
But the Currywurst will always be the number one on the list.
In my opinion, only in Berlin you can have a perfect Currywurst. The key is in the ketchup!
In this section I provide you recipes close to my heart.
Mum cooked also a lot of Austrian dishes, because my dad is Austrian,
but you will find the Austrian recipes on a different section. Here, all German,.... I hope you like it.
